Our previously announced Getty Images partnership is now live. Symbolic users can now seamlessly access one of the world's largest image databases-- real time, in line and in context. Getty Images subscribers can simply link their account to Symbolic and immediately begin incorporating images as part of their subscription. Everyone else can access and purchase individual images from Getty Images.
This exciting milestone marks the first step in our multimedia roadmap. In addition to the Getty Images launch, users can now preview, load, and use their own images within a Symbolic draft. This feature supports any visual material, including charts, graphs and photos.
Searching for Getty Images, Previewing
The Symbolic Editor menu bar now includes a "+ Image" option. Clicking this will call up the Image menu and search bar. The search bar pre-populates with the project name, and a preliminary group of relevant editorial images. Within the Getty Images tab, users can search editorial or creative images by topic, sort by various criteria, and view thumbnails and associated metadata. Clicking "Import Preview" will deliver a full-size, low resolution version of the image to the draft so it can be viewed in line. (Note: this is a free preview. Billing occurs only on exporting and purchasing the image.) The image can be deleted from the draft by clicking on it and deleting.

Purchasing and Using Getty Images
After selecting an image, users can proceed to purchase and download it. Subscribers to Getty Images who have linked their accounts enjoy the convenience of downloading images without additional charges at the time of export. For non-subscribers, each image comes with a $5 fee, payable during the checkout process. Checkout takes place within the Publish tab when exporting the draft. Exported drafts with embedded images will display a “Purchase Image” button, which calls up the checkout and allows download of the relevant images. Purchased images are high resolution, free of watermarks, and ready for full use (as per Symbolic's terms of use).

Other Images, Charts, Graphs and Visual Materials
In addition to Getty Images, users can now import their own images, charts, graphs or any visual material. The Image menu includes "Upload", which will bring up file explorer and allow the user to upload any image files. Upon uploading an image, the image will preview in the exact same fashion as Getty Images.
