Here is a short list of recent notable AI developments that we think professional writers and publishers should be paying attention to:

The Myth Of Mythos: Anthropic withheld the public release of its latest model, Mythos, because it apparently uncovered many vulnerabilities in existing software, and the company is working with those software publishers first to resolve issues. Smart marketing for sure, but also a peek into the future arms race that is inevitable between AI powered white and black hats.

AI Backlash: Sam Altman's home was attacked (twice) by anti AI activists over the past week. AI backlash continues to grow against the backdrop of a divided country and uncertain economic future. The role we hope to play at Symbolic is to demonstrate through action that AI is, among other things, a tool that can revive Publishing companies and careers rather than undermine them.

Not Dead Yet: Meta released its long anticipated new AI model, Muse Spark, out of its reconstituted AI lab headed by Alexandr Wang, the founder of Scale AI. Although Muse is certainly behind all the major frontier models, we are rooting for them to present a viable alternative over time. As we have often said, Publishers should welcome and encourage choice to preserve their independence and protect their intellectual property. That means working with suppliers that give them diversity (Symbolic uses 5 models at present), rather than locking them into a single hyper-scaler.

We have been working on a series of enhancements that improve the chat experience within Symbolic.

Here's what's new in Symbolic:

Citations.

Symbolic will now annotate citations to responses in chat, retrieved web documents, and any AI generated document in Research. This provides tracking to the source for any document or portion of a document that requires verification and audit.

Chat, now in Editor.

Symbolic chat was previously only available in a Symbolic project's Research Grid. It's now available in Editor. Ask Symbolic questions about your research, ask it to pull quotes or ask it to check a fact for you, while writing your draft.

That's it from us this week. We are always working to improve Symbolic and make your experience more efficient and enjoyable. We would love to hear your feedback and any suggestions you may have for future updates. Don't hesitate to reach out to team@symbolic.ai.

Stay in the know.
