Media Support; Transcription

We are excited today to announce support for media files and transcription. Symbolics' goal is to deliver a transcription capability that is best in class for news, corporate communications and public relations. This means support for a broad array of file types, high fidelity of transcription, rich features, and seamless integration into the broader publisher workflow.

Support For Media Files; Automatic Transcription

Symbolic now supports a range of media file formats, including MP4, MP3, WAV, and AAC. These file types can be added just like text files via the Import button in the Research space. Symbolic will automatically recognize a media file and initiate a transcript of the audio. The research card will then feature both the transcript and the audio, which can be played back through the media player at the top.

Speaker Identification; Timestamps

Once a file is transcribed, Symbolic adds tagging and metadata to make it easy to access and navigate. Multiple speakers will be identified as "Speaker 1; Speaker 2" ... which can be edited to include actual speaker names. All transcripts are time stamped, and clicking any time stamp will advance the audio to that exact moment.

AI Actions on Transcripts

Once transcripts are added to the research space, comprehensive AI actions can be applied to them, similar to any other document or file. Users can select Symbolics' AI quick action menu, or chat with the transcript (or multiple transcripts concurrently) for research, navigation, or comparison purposes.

What's Next

In the coming weeks, you can expect support for more file types including video, support for key external media links; a new and simple way to ingest natively created media files (such as interviews done on a phone), and further UI improvements. We look forward to your feedback and suggestions.
