Here is a short list of recent notable AI developments that we think professional writers and publishers should be paying attention to:
Anthropic Settles IP Class Action Lawsuit with Authors. Anthropic settled a year old lawsuit from authors of books used in the unauthorized training of its Claude models. This is the first major settlement of its kind. TL/DR: in addition to being a validation of copyright against training models, this settlement sets a mark for the value of the IP at about $3000 per book, or the rough equivalent of an additional 1000 book sales per author. While a private settlement is not directly applicable as legal precedent, this valuation is likely to be an important benchmark as other suits settle or go to litigation.
Warner Bros Sues Midjourney. Warner Bros sued Midjourney for copyright infringement after finding that MJ regularly delivers depictions of Warner's copyrighted characters. TL/DR: Its highly likely that this will settle and/or MJ will have to remove these images. MJ generates close replicas of well know characters that are copyrighted and generate substantial revenue.
OpenAI, Anthropic Fundraises. The major frontier models continue to use copious amounts of capital to scale inference and to train future releases as they rapidly grow. OpenAI raised 8.3 at 300 (bb); Anthropic 13 at 183.
And here's what's new in Symbolic:
Search And Recommendations V2
Symbolic uses Vector Search, an AI technology, to surface content that is relevant to a project or a query. This differs from traditional semantic search as it works through degrees of logical connection to a topic as opposed to word matching. We have now released a new version of the platform, which shows up in recommendations, and in searching for web or Library content. The new platform delivers better relevance, more interesting content, and enhanced performance.

Unified Content Import
Symbolic has a new, unified, simpler way of importing content. A new modal makes it a snap to discover, select and load assets from from files, the Library, or the web.

Okta Integration
Organizations that use Okta as their identity provider can now seamlessly integrate with Symbolic through our new Log In With Okta feature. This SSO (Single Sign-On) capability streamlines the authentication process, allowing users to access Symbolic using their existing Okta credentials with no need to remember additional passwords or create separate accounts.
This integration leverages industry-standard OAuth 2.0 protocols, ensuring enterprise-grade security while reducing friction in the user experience. Teams can now enjoy the convenience of centralized identity management, with all the security benefits that come with Okta's robust authentication infrastructure, including support for multi-factor authentication and automated user provisioning. Interested customers should contact Symbolic today to enable Okta SSO for their organization.
That's it from us this week. We are always working to improve Symbolic and make your experience more efficient and enjoyable. We would love to hear your feedback and any suggestions you may have for future updates. Don't hesitate to reach out to team@symbolic.ai.
