Here is a short list of recent notable AI developments that we think professional writers and publishers should be paying attention to:
How Are People Using AI? https://www.anthropic.com/research/anthropic-economic-index-september-2025-report. Both Open AI and Anthropic released studies showing how AI is really being used. TL/DR: The top 5 use cases are coding and engineering oriented, and #6 is "create professional marketing, business and journalistic content".
Google Announces Agents Payment Protocol. Google announced a new protocol to facilitate seamless payments between AI agents, which could enable commerce without a human in the loop. TL/DR: trusted payments for agents is useful, but protocols are not two sided networks. There is a long way to go to determine who can get critical mass and build a flywheel.
OpenAI/Ives Device. Details about the device that Open AI is building in collaboration with Jonny Ives are slowly trickling out. It appears to be a screen free, context aware device positioned as a "third core device" (alongside the phone and laptop).
And here's what's new in Symbolic:
Presets
Symbolic has launched Presets, a new section of its app, located in the left main panel. The goal of Presets is simple but very powerful: to enable any Symbolic Organization to build and grow its institutional AI knowledge, and to make that knowledge available to every authorized user. Presets is a single place that holds saved voices, formats, and in the near future, templates. Through Presets, an Organization can manage, create and delete all of its instructions and permissions. This new central space shows all of the Presets that an organization has created, who created it, if it was published, and the date last modified. It enables search, sort, creation, iteration, and deletion.

Clicking into a Preset shows the instructions, and if they were generated from exemplars, the specific examples that were used. This makes the process of iteration simple. Any preset can be duplicated and modified, and an individual or a team can experiment with versions until it reflects exactly what they need. Presets enables an Organization to build cumulative knowledge around AI prompting and instructions, and to make that knowledge available to everyone in the organization, securely and seamlessly.

Custom Actions
Enterprise customers of Symbolic have the opportunity to work with us on building and deploying custom actions. Several of our larger customers have very specific and sometimes complex tasks that they need executed as part of their publishing process. We have been able to work with them to reduce this complexity to agentic multi-step workflows, returning consistently high quality results. Examples of the type of actions that are currently in production include a) return a specific list of questions and answers concerning my research; b) separate incoming source content (automated through our internal API) into category types; c) extract certain facts from research (such as data), check those facts, and then write a short standardized note based on those facts.
If you are an enterprise customer and would like to discuss Custom Actions, please contact us at team@symbolic.ai

That's it from us this week. We are always working to improve Symbolic and make your experience more efficient and enjoyable. We would love to hear your feedback and any suggestions you may have for future updates. Don't hesitate to reach out to team@symbolic.ai.
Stay in the know.
