The past week has been notable for AI innovation and investment. We start this weeks newsletter with a short list of recent AI developments that we believe professional publishers should be paying attention to:
Copyright. TL;DR: Content that is created with substantial human input but uses AI tools such as Symbolic is copyrightable.
Deepseek. TL;DR: Costs are coming down, open-source is real, and US gatekeepers will not be able to fully control AI. Symbolic is testing R1 for security, performance and applicability to relevant tasks.
Stargate. TL;DR: Capacity constrained frontier models are going to receive enormous capital investment. This will inevitably accelerate AI progress and adoption.
Here's what's new in Symbolic:
Introducing the Symbolic API
At the request of customers, Symbolic has introduced an API to help organizations automate the process of loading content into their Library and exporting finished work from the platform.
An enterprise customer can use the API to do bulk additions to and updates of their organization’s Symbolic Library, so that search results in the Research screen can be kept up-to-date and their users can work with the latest material. The API can also be used to export Symbolic-created documents to a customer CMS, so drafts, headlines, summaries, and other material can easily be moved off the platform and into an external publishing system.
The new API is a first milestone in a longer platform roadmap that will make Symbolic easy to integrate into existing enterprise workflows, where it can be used alongside both internal and third-party document storage solutions and content management systems.
Right now, we’re rapidly adding features to this API in response to customer needs, so we haven’t yet published documentation for it, although that will be available soon. If you’re interested in learning more about it, please contact us to set up a meeting.
Save Versions Of Your Drafts
Symbolics' Editor now allows you to save snapshots of your draft along the way to a publishable document. This enables a writer to iterate on a draft, review and compare changes, and, eventually, directly evaluate and track comments and changes (coming soon). Simply click on the "Version" button at the top of Editor to "snap-save" a version. Symbolic provides a date and time stamp for each version easy reference.

More improvements you'll find in Symbolic
Full Screen Full On. Working in the Symbolic Editor can now we done in full-screen, providing additional room to draft and edit your article. Simply click the arrows in the upper right corner of the Editor screen to move into full screen mode, suppressing the left and right panels. Click the arrows again to leave full-screen.
Fast Facts: Resolving facts and entities in the Symbolic Fact Check is now instant. After running the Fact Check audit, the right panel will list all the names, dates, quotes and data in the article, with source. Work down the list and resolve each entity to your satisfaction to ensure proper sourcing and accuracy. Resolution is now immediate. Try it!
That's it from us this week. We are always working to improve Symbolic and make your experience more efficient and enjoyable. We would love to hear your feedback and any suggestions you may have for future updates. Don't hesitate to reach out to team@symbolic.ai.
Stay in the know.
