Skills

Symbolic has launched the first iteration of publishing specific Skills. Skills are user created instructions that work with the platform to deliver specific results. Symbolic's Format, Voice and Templates have been a form of Skills, and we now expand the ability to add custom instructions to other workflows. We begin with editorial feedback on drafts (below), and in the near future you can expect Skills to expand to Research, Fact Check, and Publishing. Skills are created and saved in Presets, in a similar manner to any other Preset, so that the entire Organization can get the benefit and learning from their development.

Edit Check; Editorial Skills

Skills are available first in the Write screen. A writer or editor can take any document, written on Symbolic or off, and ask Symbolic to propose editorial feedback. That feedback can be shaped with a Skill. Skills can be nearly any form of instructions, such as word choices, writing style, tone or structure. It can be thought of as a personal AI editor. Edit Check is available after a draft is written, and the suggestions are presented as a series of options that the writer can accept or reject, similar to the Fact Check workflow. There are many applications of Edit Check, but one simple use case is format switching; the ability to take a single article and create multiple versions of it in seconds by applying distinct Skills.
