Yesterday evening, we introduced a highly anticipated upgrade to our platform: Fact Checking. Specifically designed for publishers who must get every fact right, this enhancement allows Symbolic users to exercise complete control over verification and trust, ensuring information reliability. Writers and editors can efficiently navigate any document—whether it’s composed on Symbolic or off—and extract facts and claims. These can then be cross-referenced with curated sources in Research, pre-designated Trusted Sources, or through the web. Verification of facts happens in a straightforward, checklist manner. Editors can also decide to add a link reference to any fact with one click. This end to end process significantly boosts productivity and streamlines a traditionally taxing editorial process.
Trusted Sources
“Sources Management” is now located in the Settings tab of each Organization. Sources management enables organizations to apply trust criteria to any domain. Domains can be categorized as “trusted,” “blocked,” or “neutral,” and a specific hyperlinking policy can be assigned accordingly. Once a domain is included as a source, those trust criteria will be applied to all subsequent projects across the entire organization.

Fact Checking
The Symbolic Editor now includes “Fact Check” in the right-side panel as a new AI-powered action. This functionality is available for documents both created within Symbolic and those imported from outside. Using advanced algorithms, the AI extracts facts and claims from the text and assesses each for their validity. It categorizes these facts as fully supported, partially supported, or refuted. The process is transparent, with users being able to see the reasoning applied, including the trustworthiness of the sources. Each source is categorized as coming from Research (your own curated content), Trusted Sources (designated in advance by your organization), or external web-based sources. This allows editors to independently evaluate the reliability of each source, check facts off as they are resolved, and manage the overall fact checking process as simply as working down a list.

Hyperlinking Superpowers
Editors have the discretion to link a source to its associated fact, giving writers and editors full control over how and when references are incorporated. This flexibility transforms what was previously a manual and time-intensive task into a simple, efficient process.

That's it from us this week. We are always working to improve Symbolic and make your experience more efficient and enjoyable. We would love to hear your feedback and any suggestions you may have for future updates. Don't hesitate to reach out to team@symbolic.ai.
