Here is a short list of recent notable AI developments that we think professional writers and publishers should be paying attention to:
Royal Rumble: A judge dismissed Elon Musk's lawsuit against Open AI on procedural grounds. The lawsuit could have had far reaching implications for the AI landscape, forcing OAI to revert to its initial not-for-profit charter. With that off the table, the structure remains, and Musk (Grok) and OAI will continue to be major competitors.
Coming Out Party: Several of the major AI platforms are now planning or proceeding with initial public offerings. OpenAI is in the lead and is expected to file within days. Both OAI and Anthropic, which could follow soon after, will be pursuing significant retail ownership of its equity. Analysts believe that valuations of the large platforms could exceed 1T, which would easily make them among the largest IPO's in history.
Cost Pressure: A number of recent corporate earnings calls have noted pressure from increasing AI costs. We strongly believe that no publisher should become dependent on any model, for both cost and performance reasons. Symbolic is constantly evaluating multiple models for cost, performance and risk, and is always looking to both minimize costs and make them more predictable. If any model ever tried to exert unfair pricing power, we are in a position to switch that model off almost instantaneously with zero disruption to the user workflow.
Here's what's new in Symbolic:
Agentic Library Search and Retrieval
We've upgraded the way that chat works with your Library. You can now execute sophisticated searches, data extractions, and syntheses from your Library simply by asking for it in chat. The Symbolic agent can execute multiple steps and has the capability to look for second and third derivatives of information. This enables you to go far beyond simple document retrieval. As an example, you can "compare and contrast coverage of the Iran war by [specific writers or publications]", or "find the daily oil price for each day over the past month, and extract that data into a table in a new document", or "list every IPO that is currently planned for the next 3 months, the valuations, expected prices and lead underwriters". The power of this tool is immense, it has no additional cost for our enterprise customers, and it is fully and seamlessly integrated to all of the capabilities of the Symbolic platform.

NewsGuard Partnership
We’re excited to share that Symbolic has partnered with NewsGuard (https://www.newsguardtech.com/) a widely recognized trust layer for the open web, and has begun integrating NewsGuard signals into the Symbolic platform. NewsGuard evaluates tens of thousands of news and information sources using apolitical journalistic criteria such as accuracy, accountability, ownership, transparency and corrections practices.
The integration is designed to give journalists, communicators and researchers more context about the sources informing their work, including reliability scores and explanations of how those ratings were determined. NewsGuard rates sources across the political spectrum, and Symbolic will always leave editorial judgment where it belongs: with the user.
We have begun implementing NewsGuard signals in select areas of Symbolic, and users can expect to see them appear more broadly across workflows where source quality matters most, including Fact Check, Research, Link Import and Explore. Users may see NewsGuard badges or reliability scores next to sources, hover or click for more context, and use source-quality signals to help prioritize higher-confidence material when researching, verifying claims or assembling briefing materials.
This reinforces a core principle behind Symbolic: AI systems are only as reliable as the information they use. In high-stakes communication, users need provenance, explainability and confidence that outputs are grounded in credible inputs. By adding independent, third-party source reliability data into the workflow, Symbolic is continuing to evolve from an AI writing tool into a trusted information workspace.
New Version of Mobile App
Following the release of our first mobile app last week, we have updated the app to include some additional functionality, such as Dark Mode, and the ability to rename files or Projects either when they are created or subsequently.

That's it from us this week. We are always working to improve Symbolic and make your experience more efficient and enjoyable. We would love to hear your feedback and any suggestions you may have for future updates. Don't hesitate to reach out to team@symbolic.ai.
